About Bywater Bakery

More Than a Bakery. A Little Corner of Happiness.
There's a magic that happens on the corner of Dauphine and Independence.
On any given weekend, world-class New Orleans musicians are playing on our steps. Dogs are patiently (or not so patiently) waiting for the bacon lady. Kids are dancing off a sugar high. Old friends run into each other in line. Our crew is hustling, the ovens are humming, and somebody is probably laughing a little too loudly.
It's noisy. It's colorful. It's occasionally chaotic.
And we wouldn't have it any other way.
When we opened Bywater Bakery in 2017, we wanted to create more than a place to buy bread and cake. We wanted to create a place where people feel welcome, where neighbors become friends, and where a little kindness can go a long way.
Somewhere along the way, that dream became our everyday reality.
And all that beautiful chaos? We call it happiness.
What We Believe
In this house, we believe:
Black Lives Matter.
Women's Rights Are Human Rights.
No Human Is Illegal.
Science Is Real.
Love Is Love.
KINDNESS IS EVERYTHING.
We believe that food builds community, that compassion matters, and that everyone deserves a seat at the table.
We also believe that owning a small business comes with a voice and a responsibility. Sometimes the world calls on us to use that voice.
Some folks believe businesses should stay out of politics. We see it differently. Politics affect our employees, our neighbors, our families, and the community we love. We don't expect everyone who walks through our doors to share our views. But we do believe in being clear about what matters to us.
You don't have to agree with us about everything to be welcome here.
Above all, we hope you find a little joy on our corner of Dauphine and Independence.
